4 month old fussy eater
« on: May 14, 2012, 18:02:36 pm »
Hi,
I was hoping someone could give me some advice. I'm finding breast feeding exhausting and frustrating at the moment.
My daughter just turned 4 months. I know there's supposed to be a big growth spurt around now, but she is acting differently from previous growth spurts. Instead of wanting to nurse every hour or two, it seems like I'm feeding her even more frequently than that but only for a few minutes at a time because she spends more time bobbing off and fussing than she does swallowing. After a few minutes she seems to give up and fuss so I stop trying to feed her. But then she refuses to sleep and cries until I feed her again and this cycle continues until she's exhausted and falls asleep.
For the past couple of nights this has gone on for about two hours when I'm trying to put her to sleep. I tried giving her a bottle instead but she only took one ounce and carried on fussing. I don't really understand what's bothering her, or what I can do to help. Any ideas?

Have you had any other changes in her overall sleeping/eating patterns?

Is it possible that she could be teething?  Not necessarily getting some teeth, but teeth shifting around under those gums?  The bobbing on and off reminds me of something that babies do when their gums are hurting and they're hungry, but it bothers them to nurse.  Could she be getting sick?  Sore throat or something?  It does sound like some sort of discomfort issue to me.
