sleep regression at 13 weeks?
« on: June 11, 2012, 07:41:55 am »
Hiya,

My LO has gone from 1 DF and 1 NF to waking every 3h.
She is just over 3 months old and I'm wondering if this could be the dreaded sleep regression? I thought it came at around 4months though. Not sure I can even call it a regression as she has never had more than 1 NF, not even as a newborn!
I don't think it's a GS as I have so much milk she should be able to get enough calories without feeding to stimulate more production.
She used to wake at 4-5am crying from hunger (5h sleep in a row from the DF) and the be up for the day between 8-9am. Now when she wakes, she isn't as desperate for food but she does look hungry, sucking hard on her paws so I feed her and she goes back to sleep.
Should I continue to do this or am I creating a bad habit?

She may not be able to fit in enough milk at the feedings though - her tummy is only so big. Is she feeding more frequently during the day? Are you doing a cluster feed?

What's her EASY? She may just be 'waking up' from her newborn slumber and need more time awake or a longer day.

She is still happy to do a cluster feed so between 5 and 8pm I try get in 3 feeds.
Her S times vary between 1.15 and 2h (I try help her through 2 naps a day to get longer S and leave her to do her own 45min min for the rest.
Her A depends on the S, between 1.15 and 1.30 (night sleep 12h, day sleep around 4)
Her E is usually every 3h as that's when she starts sucking on her paws.

An example of our EASY would be:

8.30 WU E
10.00 S
11.00 WU
11.30 E
12.15 S
14.15 WU E
15.45 S
16.30 WU E
17.45 S
18.30 WU E
19.30 bath
19.50 E
20.00 BT
23.30 DF

She takes 140-150ml of BM in her DF bottle so I assume that she can do as much during the day. Although she is a lot more distracted of late and her feeds have gotten much shorter. I try to keep offering her more till she gets angry. We weighed her last week and she is gaining despite the fussy and distracted feeds.
She was born in the 38th week so in theory I guess she should be a bit behind.

Do you think it could be a GS ? I sure do hope so!

EASY looks great :)

It screams GS to me. DS had noticeable GS's despite my ridiculous oversupply and the first one was at around 3 months. He was screaming for ages and I couldn't figure out why ::) Then I fed him to get him to stop crying and he slept for 2.5hr... bliss :P

GS is not just about increasing you supply, its also about LO growing a HEAP in a few short days and they need more calories for it ;)

Fingers crossed it all settles down in a few days for you.

Thanks!
GS so much better than sleep regression. I read about it and it sounds scary and lasts ages.

I'm tagging along here, Eva- I think we are going through a GS, too.  He had been doing 8-4 without a DF, then to 7 or 8.....Now he won't go to sleep until 9+, up at 11,2,5,  in bed with me at 6!

How many nights did it last for?

wow, that's rough
It lasted 4-5 nights here and only nights, so that's what got me thinking it wasn't a GS at all.
But things are back to normal (touch wood)
Longest GS we've had so far lasted a week, so hang in there!
