Baby won't feed when she wakes - throwing EASY off!
« on: June 20, 2012, 08:01:50 am »
I'm trying to establish EASY with my 16 week old after 15 weeks of AP including co sleeping, feeding to soothe and nursing to sleep :(. Because she's nearly 4 months  I
Aiming for the four hourEASY    It's now day three and my LO just won't eat when she first wakes which means she's doing AESY. She woke at 7:30 this morning ( an accidental lie in after a fairly sleepless night) and didn't feed until 8:30. I don't know whether to delay her nap so she's more hungry when she wakes from that, or to keep the nap schedule right and hope the feed takes care of itself? I should mention that the is still feeding twice in the night as well as a dream feed - DF at 10:30, then awake to feed at 1:30 and 4:15. So it's bit surprising she isn't too hungry at 7:30 but if she's hungry at night should I not feed her?
Please help - I really want EASY to work :(

Can you limit the 4:15ish feed to just one side or to a slightly shorter feed so she's a bit more hungry when she wakes in the morning?

How does she go without a dreamfeed? I just wonder, because DS woke more often with it than without and if she still only wakes for two feeds at night without the DF, that may be an easy way to shift some calories from night to day.

She only fed for a few minutes at 4:15 so I don't think I could limit it. I could try not doing DF - I only started a couple if nights ago and she takes to it very well so no harm dropping it for a few days to see if that works. Even yesterday when she woke from a two hour nap she didn't feed for an hour. It's so frustrating!

Also, thinking about it, she did tank up too - at 6 then 8. So that's a lot of feeds from 6 to 4 this morning. Maybe not too surprising that she wasn't hungry!

Yeah, I'd keep the tanking up and ditch the DF - it can be disrupting to some LO's sleep and if you've only just started it, you might as well see what happens without. Sounds like she's easy during the night instead of the day.

I'd aim for 3.5 hours or more between your day feeds for now and let the naps fall where they will, so you'll most likely end up doing EASAE instead if EAS -- just try not to feed to sleep.  My ds was always a short napper so I often ended up having some A time before his feeds.
