I'd just be a bit worried that he'd build up OT over time, because neither is really restorative, yk? Also, it doesn't help you to move towards one nap as much as doing a long and a short. I know it does work for some babies though!

Those length naps still sound UT to me, even though it's quite a long A in between. You could try pushing it by 10 or 15 mins :-\ The other option is to go back to the long am short pm - so push out the morning A time as far as you can, and then don't wake him. It can be a bit tricky with EWs though.

Hey Candicebullard and Papaya!  Going through a very similar thing here (my son is 10 months).  Used to get 12hrs solid... been capping the am nap because he started resisting going down... was waiting to see his signs and then put him down (it was getting later and later)  especially after a good nap.  Now down to 30 min and struggling with the right second A time... I think because he's not fully restored... I'm missing his signs?  He's yawning the whole time.  Yesterday and today I did 30 min and 130 min naps (I always have to wake him)... he was asleep by 710 but woke at 810 and again at 545 (crying both times) very unusual for him... I noticed a molar this morning... so I'm not sure...

What is your little one doing now?

What is your day like now?

Hi Saskin, if you're waking at 30 mins from the first nap I really wouldn't wake him from the second. He'll get OT very quickly if you do - better to push bt out a little if need be. Those NWs are OT for sure (although teeth may not be helping either).

If he'll do 2hrs for the pm that's great, as you're working towards one long nap eventually and if he's in the habit of doing a long pm it'll be easier to finally make the jump ;)

If you want us to take a look at your routine, you could always start your own thread too :) Have you seen the 2-1 support thread? http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=231552.0

Hi there. We've stuck with the 30 minute morning nap and pushed out the A time a bit between naps, hoping for a longer afternoon nap. Today DS didn't fall asleep until he had been awake 3.5 hours and then slept for an hour and a half. So maybe he just needs this longer A time between his naps...? I'm going to keep it up for a few more days and see how we go. Bad news is we've been having EW again. :( A few days it was 5am. Makes for a long day! But we've also have been battling a wicked cold, so I want to let him ride that out and see if he adjust a bit more. Fingers crossed!

Papaya, how long do you think A time should be between afternoon nap and bedtime?

Saskin, I've never had the problem of having to wake him from his afternoon nap. I always let him sleep as long as he could. But my DS has never been a long napper! Hope you get it all sorted!

Great that you're getting a longer nap again - must have been UT ;) But if he can do that long between naps your day must be getting very long (which can lead to OT overall), so I think it might be time to cut the am nap shorter. If you cap at 20 mins, I would reduce that second A quite a bit again - maybe back to 2.5 hours. This should make your day shorter and hopefully give you a more restorative night!

Thanks, Papaya! I think you might be right - will think about cutting this morning nap once we get over this awful illness. :( Fever, up in the night, not eating well... it's awful! Not looking forward to tonight. :( Anyway, thanks again! Hopefully I can get him all sorted soon!
