Multiple Jolts... do you girls stay through them all?
« on: July 30, 2012, 15:15:49 pm »
Hi fellow Mums!
I seem to be posting alot lately... turns out everyday is a new day full of new questions!  I was just wondering if any other mums have noticed their LO's having multiple jolts and if so, do you stay through them all?
I've noticed that my LO doesn't seem to have a 20 minute jolt, but rather jolts at 25, 30, sometimes 35 and 45.  If we are lucky we'll make it through all of them with just hand pressure.  However, if he wiggles too much, he's screaming and we have to start from scratch.  Needless to say, most of my day is sitting quietly by his side helping him through dreamland.  Also, I've noticed, he doesn't seem to "melt" into the crib after the jolts, but rather the opposite.  His breathing will increase and escalate instead of become deeper and shallower.

I was wondering if anyone else experienced this? and how long do you stay with your LO?  Do you think this is something they will outgrow?  I'm guessing at some point their sleep cycle will lengthen.

anyway, would love to hear all your thoughts!

Hi there

Is your LO swaddled? If so, what kind do you use?

Hi Smurfette, My saviour in disguise! LOL
yes, as per your advice for something else, I started swaddling him the old way.. as in arms down, which before he flat out refused and fought and fought to get out.  Maybe he was OT or something because now he doesn't fight it... go figure.  anyway, the last two days i've been able to lay him down sleepy and let him fall asleep alone.  I don't want to jinx myself but...
it's weird because i watch him on the monitor and he's so fidgety.
is this something they outgrow?

Yes, the jolts they do. I think it's called the Moroz reflex, but I could be wrong or confusing it with something else. But yes, those jolts eventually go away.

That's awesome that you've been able to lay him down and let him fall asleep alone!!
