4 month sleep regression-is this it????
« on: July 30, 2012, 07:27:00 am »
Hi
I've post a few times recently-been a tricky July! I followed along a sleep regression post but the advice I was given was that lo was prob poorly-he was! Fighting a lil virus so that was two wks ago. Now he turned 17wks sat-usually he's napping ok-starting to go thru 45 min-always does at nap 1 and often nap 2 and waking once in night for a feed anywhere between 2:30-4am. Well sat am came and he woke grumpy-(he's an angel/textbook) put down after 1.5hrs as was showing tired signs and woke at 45-wouldn't resettle unless in my arms this continued all day he had three 45 mins! Then he slept ok waking once, sun worse-more difficult to settle for naps and waking at 30/40 mins. Last night he woke at 45, next 45 and the next then was ok til 12, then fed at 2:30 then awake at 4:30, 5:30 and finally got up at 6:30-he's moody this am too-prob knackered like us! Wouldn't settle in his cot dispute all efforts but collapsed when I picked him up-he's now asleep in his chair with the vibrate on!!! Is this the regression? How is the best way to get thru it-I want him to sleep so should I just relax about how and where for the mo? Don't want to start bad habits!
Thanks

I hadn't thank you, I managed to extend his naps yest it's the nights that are awful-2 v bad nights in a row! From sleeping til 3/4:30 he is waking/restless unsettled pretty much the whole night-do we just ride this out? Am exhausted! We've not changed anything we do that I can think of, thought the first night it may just be overtired but yest he had 4.5 hrs sleep in the day-just don't know what to do!

He is on 4 hourly-I aim for 9-11 nap and 1-3  with a late pm cat nap but with his mixed up nights he's been going down earlier for first nap-if he does a good 1.5/2hrs he'll have 2 hours a time if the naps been not so good I'll take him up at the 1.5hr mark.
It just seems so weird that he was doing good naps and sleeping peacefully till 3/4am (feed) and since sat it's all gone!!! I don't feel that we're doing anything different in the night-we leave him to fuss and go to him when it's a cry etc. he's still in with us as it's easier to get to him quickly do you think he should go into his room? He naps in his own room! I'm so confused! Read about the 4 month regression and praying it is that as it does seem like we've gone back a step with resettling at 45mins and now these nw-in the night it seems like his little body is jolting again???

I kept my two in the same room with me until 6mo due to SIDS guidelines so I wouldn't recommend you move him out. Of course it's up to you though.

It's only been a few days so he could be sick or teething or did he have immunisations last week perhaps? It could also be the 4mo growth spurt. Can you try feeding him more in the day?

At 4mo LOs start sleeping more in cycles of 45mins like adults which is why most sleep until 4am or so up to that point and then start waking again. Try not to employ props at night and it shouldn't become a habit. I would try to resettle in the cot with shh pat and if that isn't working after a day or so then try pupd.

Will try adding a cluster feed at 5 and see if it helps! Thank you
