2 years, 4 mos, and Early/Night Wakings... We're Back
« on: August 28, 2012, 18:41:22 pm »
 :(
DS had been doing much better after we moved into our new house -- sleeping until around 6, which was fine. Over the last week or two, we're back to having him up from between 4:30 to 5:30 and refusing to go back to sleep. We had let him take a longer nap (almost 2 hrs) and then we got another 5:15 waking. Last night he was up at 2:20 a.m. and then it took me giving him drinks, holding him in chair (he started sleeping on me) then finally sleeping on the floor w/him (NEVER need to do that) to get him back to sleep (all of this took about an hr). I woke after about an hr and got him into his crib, he hugged me and went to sleep since I was still there. Ugh. Then he slept til 6:25.

Now what? Do we let him nap longer? Shorten it? Argh! DH capped his nap at 1 hr 30 min yesterday and said DS was not happy to be awakened... so maybe OT?

Day typically looks like this
4:30-5:30 (typically 5-5:30) - Awake. Doesn't really want anything except to go play.
Eat - 6:45 am
Montessori from 8:30-11:45
Lunch at 12
Nap around 1 (sometimes falls asleep immediately, other times will chat 30 minutes)
Have been waking at 1 hr 45 min most days with the occasional long nap if he was up very early
Bedtime at 7 - has been asleep within 10 minutes. Used to chat 20-30 minutes

What should we try? Thank you!

Hugs. My thought is the nap may have been too long hence the ew, but now he is OT...can you try an earlier nap for a few days and EBT to shorten the day and allow for catch up overnight?

Thanks Sara for the very quick reply! We can try an earlier nap and earlier BT tomorrow, today is big brother's birthday so it will be a challenge to get to bed at the normal time. How long should we try for the nap lengths, do you think? Wish we could figure out the right amount! At least (knock wood) he still naps without fuss...

I would let him catch up for now, maybe give up to 2 hrs just for a day or two, but earlier so nap finishes earlier too KWIM
Then if you get a few good nights, and reasonable WU you can push back out and look at taking 15 mins off the nap (what it was ie if it was 1hr45 try 1hr30 )
