Regretting Transition to Big Girl Bed...
« on: September 01, 2012, 13:59:51 pm »
Hello,

I have just taken the side off my 2 year old's cot to turn it into a toddler bed.  The first nap I had to return her to her bed when she got out for about 35 minutes.  That evening we ended up putting her to bed a little late and she went right to sleep.  The next day we were driving home just before nap time and so she feel asleep in the car so we just transferred to her bed.  Then that night she again went straight to sleep.

That brings me to today.....  I tried to put her down for her nap and ended up returning her to her bed for over an hour!!!  At that point I was so exhausted that I got my husband to come in and turn her bed around so the opening was blocked by the wall.  We left the room and she cried for a couple of minutes and then was fast asleep!

I was prepared for having to return her to her bed until she figures out that she still has to go to sleep when I put her in there but I wasn't prepared for over an hour of this and even then it not even working!  Any suggestions?  I have a feeling that she is not getting out of her bed at night because it is very dark in the room.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!!  Thanks.

Could you convert it back into the cot, maybe she feels secure and snug in there. I waited until my dd was begging for a BGB, I believe if they are wanting it and ready it is a smooth transition  :)

Thank.  I needed to make the transition now because I have had an injury that means I can't lift my little one for quite a few weeks so with her in a regular cot I cannot be independent in putting her to bed or getting her up.  I don't think that she was getting out because she didn't feel secure... she was giggling!  I tried to keep a neutral expression and not engage her in any way to prevent her from thinking it was a fun game.  Not sure where to go from here?!  Any thoughts on getting her to stay in her bed?

You can't keep her in bed but you can keep her in her room with a stairgate up at the door.
