Napping in different places
« on: October 04, 2012, 16:52:27 pm »
I have a 3 month old son and he has been a dream because I started him on the E.A.S.Y. schedule from the very beginning. He sleeps 11 hours at night, with a sleep feeding. He takes 3 naps a day 1-2 hours each and a 4th catnap 30 minutes to an hour long. He used to take all his naps in his crib and I would go through the whole wind down routine each time, but as he hit 2 1/2 months, he started really resisting this. Now, he takes his first nap with me in my bed, which is always two hours. His second and third naps are in a reclining rocker (it doesn't rock while he sleeps/I still swaddle him), and his fourth nap is during a walk in the stroller or Ergo carrier. He is still sleeping really well at night, but he is getting very fussy and cries really hard. I have been giving him gripe water to calm him down each night since he's started crying because I'm not sure if it is gas pains or not. Sometimes it calms him down right away and other times he still needs to be soothed for quite awhile until he passes out from crying so hard. He never used to cry when I put him down to bed. He's barely 3 months so I'm not sure P.U./P.D. will work yet. He gets stimulated easily. I'm worried the gripe water is becoming a prop. Could his transition to taking naps in other places than his crib be the cause of his crying at night before bed?

hi hon- it might be causing some issues as he might be used to being held to fall asleep. I'm wondering if the issues you are having getting him to sleep might be related to how much A time he is having, and it might be time to push it up and drop that cat nap. Can you post up your EASY schedule so we can have a look? Also- the crying before bed might also be a sign that he needs more A time, and only 3 naps as he's now not tired enough to go to sleep at night.
