2:1 Is my lo ready?
« on: September 06, 2012, 06:06:15 am »
Ok, so for the last month or so my ds( he just turned 14 mos. today) has been taking a 30 min nap in the A.M (I wake him) and then another nap at 2 or 2:30 for 1.5-2hrs. He would take a 1hr.20 min. about 2-3x a week. When he did that I could not figure out if this was his OT building up or if he wasn't tired enough.. so it would be: WU 7a.m
                                                                                               A.M nap 10/10:30-11am  30min
                                                                                               PM nap 2/2:30- 3:30/4ish
                                                                                               BT 7:30/8ish

Now for the last two days he wakes up by himself after 20 min in his A.M nap and then is refusing the P.M nap. He eventually fell asleep but at 4 P.M. today and 3:45ish yesterday !! That's over an hr. of him being in his crib before he falls asleep. And when he did fall asleep he only slept 1 hr. 20 min. (which some people say is an OT nap)

I cannot figure out if he is OT and his sleep is wonky or if he is ready to go to one nap.
I'm concerned he may be OT because with school starting last week, my alarm went of at 6:45am and woke him up early several times(his normal wu is 7am) and on sunday missed a morning nap because of church, came home and then took a 1hr. 20 min nap and then got OT by the time bedtime came. Most days he will take a 1hr.30 min-2hr. nap. Which leads me to think he may be OT.
Or maybe he's ready for 2:1? I know the average age to go to 1 nap is about 15 mos. so he is close
Thanks!

I would say it is worth trying the 1 nap really. Once their naps are 20 mins or so they aren't really doing much other than making the day really long anyway.... some LOs struggle with the jump so need the mini nap but typically dropping it and adjusting the day works wonders ;

What is his personality? - if he copes with routine changes well maybe try something like this for 3 days and see how he goes?

WU 7
A 4.5
Nap 11.30 for as long as he likes, hopefully 2 hrs + if he short naps try to resettle.
A 4.5/5
BT ~6.30/7

If you get a short nap you can always then do a CN ;)

Just keep an eye on him really, and if you get a short nap then try to resettle if you can, or offer a pm CN if you can fit it in. Good luck, let me know how you go!
