21mo Ew, Nw Bt SA

After approx 4month of gd sleep we have had a really bad wk. Old routine was wu 7am nap 1-2.30 (cappd) bt 8pm sttn. Now we have had bt battles (cry if we leave the room when previous independant sleeper). When i stay with him it takes ages for him to sleep. We'v had a few long NWs which i think are teething. We have also had EWs (on nites with no NW). I tried painkillers but not sure it helps, so i wonder if his nap is too long now, or if all the disturbance can be teething or developmental? On days when he short naps due to being out etc he is still dificult at bt but does fall asleep earlier. What wud u do? Xx

Hi j and e! I can't believe you are having these issues again, and guess what so am I! our LOs must talk to each other somehow. Sorry, I can't be of much help because I'm trying to figure out what on earth to do as well. Have your LOs canines come out yet? My DSs have all come out so I can't even use that as a reason!

Good luck and in the meantime, huge hugs!

Hi Both,

We are also still struggling!  EW's at 5.30am I just accept now, but we are still having nw's and some bt refusal.  But we have 2 canines still left to cut so I susepct that is playing a part.  It seems this age there must be a lot of development issues going on!  They all seem to be at it.
We have had some days when he naps short and he has gone through the night, this had made me wonder about nap cutting? But i'm too afraid.  What do you do when they have a short nap, do you put them to bed early or keep bt the same?  If it's less than an hour i do early bed if it's over an hour and less then 2 then I do normal bt.

Good luck to you both x

I'd say hang in there with routine, its probably developmental.  We had similar at that age, taking ages to go to sleep at BT, waking a lot earlier than usual etc.  I went down the route of cutting the nap shorter & after 2-3 weeks I could see DS was a complete wreck, he wasn't going to sleep any earlier & he was still EWing and NWing too.  I had to reinstate a 2hr nap b/c he simply couldn't cope with less, and so since 22-23 months he's been napping 1-3/3.30 with BT at 8pm.  He wakes at 7am.  I think they are just at the stage where they realise they can influence things with their behaviour eg delaying tactics at BT & we as parents have to remain strong.  I also think that DS's sleep needs seemed to increase again as he hit 2, so hang in there & it might just settle back down again.

Thanks ladies! Is strange thou as we had a few months of great independant sleep. Suddenly i have to stay with him at bt and nap time and he's having long nws (but twice i brought him in my bed as i was too knackerd to deal and he then slept soundly till 8am. I try and wake him at 2.30pm from his nap and he goes to bed at 7.30 and is asleep at 8pm. If he falls asleep late for nap i cut to 45min and he usually goes to bed at the same time. Sigh. I wonder if its a SA developmental thing, but its a pain. I am reluctant to do wi.wo as I cant believe my gd sleeper wud suddenly start this nonsense unless there was something up xx
