6 month naps-early waking
« on: October 02, 2012, 09:45:01 am »
Hello all

Just after a lil bit of advice, lo is an angel baby settles himself to sleep for naps bedtime etc, weaning really well. It's sleep we have small issues with-he slept thru at 4 months but then is disturbed easily and sometimes can but sometimes cannot put himself back to sleep. His first nap has shortened from 2 to one hour-any idea why? He has about 2.5hr a time but seems tired before that-but trying to push him longer for a longer nap-I can sometimes resettle him with a dummy and holding his arms. We also struggle with catnap (unless in car) he tends to wake from 2nd nap at 3/3:30 and so I end up putting him to bed earlier than I'd like at 6:20/6:30 as he's exhausted! He is waking about 5ish normally having popped but he is resettled til 7ish day normally looks like this
7 wake
7:30 bottle
8 breakie
9:30 sleep ( the day then depends on when he's woken)
11 bottle
12 lunch
1:30 sleep
3 bottle
5 tea
6 bath
6:15 bottle
6:30 bed

Any suggestions??

Thanks Sarah

Your easy looks great :)
I do think this is a tough time dropping the cn, I would just work on gently increasing the A times closer to 3 hrs over a few weeks. You can do just 1 or all of them if the naps etc are good.
Maybe try 2 hrs40 before the first nap for 3 days and if you get a good nap the same for the next A? That will push BT out a bit and hopefully WU will follow ;)

Thanks so much! It's weird as my instinct says he is OT! As he wakes at the hour mark crying and then is always (nearly) able to settle again! Wondered if I'd pushed him on too quickly-he was behaving 2hr A time and I pushed it straight to 2.5-maybe too much? What do you think? X

It's hard to tell, sometimes they wake crying because they are still tired, but not tired enough to go back to sleep KWiM?
How long has he been on that 2.5 hr A time?

Know what I mean? ;)
I would stick with 2.5 min, he should be able to do that, and on les you may beta 30-45 min nap :-\ that said some LOs do need a short first A, then longer as day goes on....you generally have to trial a few times if LO is tricky

For us 1 hr naps were UT, if you try adding 10 mins onto the current A you may find he sleeps past the 1 hr mark ... If not and you get a short nap you know it's too much :-*
