Early morning feeds, when to start the day?
« on: October 21, 2012, 05:33:53 am »
Hi there,
Just a quick question, my 10 week old often wakes for a feed at 5.30am, I think i'm supposed to treat this as a night feed but then how do I start the day with him a 7.30am as it is only 2 hours since he last ate? Isn't it too soon to feed him again?

Thank you for any help!!

Chrissy

Thanks so much for your reply!

We only started BW properly yesterday so we're just starting out! But yesterday went like this:

E 7.30am
A 8.15am
S 8.30am

E 10.15am
A 10.30am
S 11.30am

E 1.15pm
A 1.45pm
S 2.30pm

E 4.45pm
A 5.30pm
S 6pm

E 7.30pm
A 8.15pm
S 8.45pm

Then he woke at 1am for a full feed and 5.30am for most of a feed..

I haven't done a df as I'm a bit worded about waking him and then not being able to get him back to sleep!

Thank you for your help!!

There are a few things you could try. One would be to push that 1st A time a little and the second would be a dreamfeed, i would personally get a dreamfeed in there. The point of a dream feed is that you dont actually wake baby, you just go in, feed and put back down. It should then push that NF out a little and then push that EW out to a more reasonable WU time. Try for a few nights and if it doesnt make a difference try push that first A time.

Depends on the nap length, my lo 'protests' to being put down!! She does a little 'mantra' cry then stick her thumb in. Heres a few links that may be useful to you.

I cant find a link but anything 30 mins or less is an Over tired nap and 45 mins can be OT but usually undertired!! Anything from 1.5-2 hours is a restorative nap.

Am I right in thinking that if they wake crying after 45 mins they've woken free the first sleep cycle? I've managed to get him back to sleep after waking after 45 mins?

Yes one sleep cycle is 45 mins. If you can get him back to sleep fairly easy id say the A time was spot on and he was just having trouble transitioning cycles. you could try to go in 5 mins before he wakes and help him through the jolts xx
