Bottle before bed?
« on: October 18, 2012, 18:26:23 pm »
On a lot of the sample schedules I noticed quite a few of them followed more of an E.A.E.S. pattern before bed, and I'm a little confused.  Is it ok to add in that extra E right before sleeping?  Is the bottle/bf-ing right before sleeping not considered a prop?

Is the extra E a full feeding or just a little bit to top LO off for the night?

Bedtime feeds are a bit different and don't seem to be a prop! We always did a bedtime feed last of all and at times they would fall asleep on the bottle (and during night feeds) but they were both independent sleepers for naps so it was never a problem.

On a 3 or 4 hour EASY the last E does happen at bedtime, the first E at 7 (for example) would be on waking up and then the last E would be at 7 which is bedtime to keep the 12 hour day/ night as much as possible.

HTH!

Thanks for your reply! We are currently on a 3 hour EASY with our 8 week old, but we have to start our day at 6 am in order for both of us to make it to work on time so our schedule looks like this:

E: 6 am
A
S

E: 9 am
A
S

E: 12 pm
A
S

E: 3 pm
A
S

E: 6 pm
A: bath time, massage, jammies
S: usually in crib and asleep between 7:00-7:20

E: 8 pm (we had been doing this cluster feed, but should we drop it now that LO is 8 weeks old?)

E: 10:30 dream feed

E: usually wakes around 2:30-3 am for feeding

So should we add an extra E in after his bath time before we put him to bed?

Does this work for you? Is he falling asleep without a feed? Is his weigh gain ok?
If that's how things been then I would just let be, don't fix it if it's not broken, lol.
If you want to stop with the cluster feeding then you can offer a feed before BT and just not wake him up for that cluster feed.
TBH, your nights look great for having such a young baby and I don't know if I'd change something IIWY.
Maybe when he is a bit older, when his A and S are different then there will be anyway a BT feed.

I had been thinking about cutting out the 8 pm feed and just giving a few ounces after his bath right before bed. He goes down for naps and bed just fine without a bottle.

Sounds like a plan. If weight gain is ok so far I don't see a problem :)
