Super short naps at daycare= overtired baby at home
« on: October 29, 2012, 23:04:25 pm »
My 3 month old does not sleep well at daycare. She does fine when she is at home because I can darken the room, swaddle her, and turn on her white noise machine. Today she slept less than 2 hours from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. I'm not sure how to help her. On days like this I feel bad waking her up during the evening, but I am also afraid that if I let her sleep too long in the early evening, then she might be up all night. How long should I let her sleep? On a good day (a weekend home with me and no daycare) her EASY looks like this (I'm not even sure if this is a good schedule):

7 E
8:15 S
10 E
11:15 S
1:00 E
2:15 S
4:00 E
5:15 S
7 E
8 S
9 E
9:30 S

Hi there, sorry we missed this until now.

In the EASY above, is she sleeping from each S time until the next E time? If so, that looks like a great routine to me! Not sure about her bedtime though - is it 8pm or 9.30pm? 9.30 is very late, I would have her in bed for the night sometime between 7 and 8, if she's up at 7 in the morning.

What is the sleeping arrangement at daycare - do they have a darkened room? Do they put her down at the times you tell them?

When she is home with me she has between 1 hr 15 min and 1.5 hrs of awake time until her next nap. So she usually sleeps until her next feeding. Today at daycare she slept 1.5 hours total (from 7 am wake up time until 4:15 when I picked her up). She was so exhausted that she screamed from the moment I put her in the carseat until the moment she fell asleep swaddled in her crib. At day care they leave the lights on, have music going, and swing them to sleep (all of which I hate). We have officially withdrawn her and are starting her somewhere new (and of course much more expensive) on Monday.  Hopefully that will help. My husband dropped off our deposit today and said the lights in the infant room were all off and they were sleeping so clearly they understand that part. I just wish I could stay home with her. Then her schedule would be perfect!

Hugs, must be so tough. I really hope the new place works out better for you - sounds like they appreciate the importance of sleep there! Let us know if we can help any more :-*
