How long before disagreeable food leave my milk?
« on: November 01, 2012, 20:53:41 pm »
Hi guys
Just had DD 9 days ago. Second child. Ate pesto with all sorts in it for dinner last night, dd terrible wind and badly unsettled for 6 hrs This afternoon. Am BF with 1 bottle (30-90mls)formula per 24 hrs also if needed. Feel so guilty to cause this, don't want to give her any more pain she has only settled in last hour.
Thanks so much

Don't feel bad.  Most research now seems to suggest that only certain foods where constituent parts cross through into the blood affect a LOs tummy.  At 9 days old, it is completely possible that it's another growth spurt which will make LO want to feed more, which can then lead to wind if they haven't burped after feeding.

It sounds like you're doing great :)

Thanks for that, finding it quite tough in general. Didn't particularly want to feed, just threw herself off after few mins but then woke screaming in pain every few mins with really foul farting the poor pet!
DS had high palate so i expressed for 3 months with him which was rotten experience as had low supply. was delighted DD has a great latch but am finding the unpredictability and mysteries of breastfeeding a bit overwhelming :-)

Totally get that and sometimes it's really hard to tell the difference between hunger cues and wind.  I know my DD always sort of looked the same!!  A lot of BF is psychology, so if all is going well with her feeding and you following her cues, you just need to believe that it's going as well as it can be.  We're here to hold your hand through that :)
