Hi again!

We've been having 2-3 nws and EW (4-5am) ever since st ds-OT related we think. ive been trying to keep to 13h days but with such EWU its not been possible. his easy over last couple of days was

A 7h30
Nap 12.30-2
A 4h45
BT 6.45 (10min ss)
Nw 11 ss
Nw 12-1

13/12/12

Wu 5.23
A 7h
Nap 11.15-2.15
A 5h
BT 7 (1min ss)
Nw 11 ss
Nw 12 ss
Nw 4 i stayed and kept hand on him as unsettled

14/12/12

Nap 11.45-1.15 but stayed in bed with me resting till 2.30
A 5h25
Bt 6.40 (20min ss)
Nw 9.50 wiwo
Nw 12.50 gave teething meds (molars coming through but don't seem to bother him- ibuprofen doesn't make a diff anyway)

EW 4 gave meds and co-slept ::) the prop I'm trying to lose but I couldn't face such an early start.

Wu 6.45!!! I've stayed with him over last few days from 4 but he's never slept this late. Dyt he has caught up?

Wdyt I should do with easy today so I can get rid of EW? I was goin to aim for

Wu 6.45
A 6h15
Nap 1-2.30/3
A 5h
BT 7.30/8

He's always preferred long am at and short pm. Any thoughts on how to get rid of this UT/OT mess?

Tia!! xx

Today was a good day for naps. I think he may not be OT anymore...

Wu 6.45
A 6h15
Nap 1-2.45 (he has a bottle and I stay with him for naps)
A 5h25
BT 8.10 (was aiming for 7.45 but took 25 min to settle)

He was chattering at BT which doesn't usually happen (yesterday too) which is why I'm thinking not OT anymore?

Any thoughts on where his routine needs tweaking for this nws/ EW if he's not OT?

Thanks
aishi :)

Help!!! How to eliminate EW and nw with 30 mo toddler
« Reply #2 on: December 16, 2012, 07:53:34 am »
Help!!!

Ds sttn from 8.10-4.35 and was then up for the day! I gave ibuprofen for teething and even tried co sleeping but nothing worked. What do I do now?

I'm so frustrated. I have worked so hard for weeks to get him sleep trained and over OT with longer naps and EBT and now I'm back to square one!! Even if I do EBT that will at latest be 5.30!!! And there's no way he will tack on!

Can anyone help with what I should do today? I'm ready to give up. Nothing works at these EW anymore. The only thing I have left to try is to just leave him even if he cries so he knows that it's still night time :(

Do you stay with him for every nap? Does he fall asleep with the bottle?

I would get rid of the bottle to be honest - he shouldn't be having bottles at this age. If you are staying with him for naps that's probably why he's looking for you in the early hours when sleep is lighter.

I would try setting nap time and bedtime too - so 12.30 nap and 7pm bedtime what ever happens. You will get some OT but if you set naps and bedtime that should reset his body clock.

He's only having one nap which I do stay with him for or he wakes after 45 min. If he's tired enough I can leave him with bottle and he will fall asleep without me but is usually awake after and hour. But he was fighting naps which is why i let him have his bottle. he doesnt have it before BT. At naps without bottle he just plays no matter how tired he is :/ and Tbh it's the only way I can get him to drink any milk which is why I let him have it in bottle :/

ok ill try set naps and try to have him asleep by 12.30 for nap but not stay with him. Is that for as long as he wants? And then BT 7pm regardless of nap length right?

How long should i give it for set naps to work? And should I just push through regardless of how OT he becomes?

Thanks for getting back to me

I bit the bullet and did as you suggested. Still gave bottle but had him finish it before a short wd and then wiwo from 12.10. Asleep by 12.25!!! And still asleep at 2.10....!! Although i think it worked this time cos his am a was a mammoth 8hrs....should i keep to 7-8h am AT if it means he will sleep independantly or stick to set naps and bt if it means apoping nap a bit??

also Should I wake him from nap or let him cu from EW OT??

BT 7 regardless of nap length right?

Tia and thanks for the push in getting him to sleep independantly for nap... I needed the push to do it...it was just easier apoping when I have dd to sort out too...xx

Wow -great nap and well done on the WI/WO!

This is probably a bit late now but I would still stick to the 7pm bedtime for a while. You need to be consistent for about a week before you know if any changes are working. So, if after a week of set naps and bedtime things aren't improving we can think again.

Will let u know how we get on in a few days...best go think he needs help settling!  Thanks again for your help! xx

Hi!

Back again with a positive update this time :)

Ds has been sleeping on his own for naps over last two days for 1h40 each after 5.15am wu and asleep for BT by 7.15. He's been ss during the night too (I've done meds at 3 for teething which has helped) and wu today was 6!!! He woke after the gro clock today but has been waiting for it if awake earlier! So successes all round!!

Question tho should I stick to set nap of 12.30 since his am a will be 45min shorter than usual or push it out? What do I do if he refuses his nap at 12.30? Try again half hr later or do wiwo?

Thanks again for your support x

It's only been a couple of days - WELL DONE though! I would stick with the set nap/ set bedtime for a few more days at least to let him get into the routine. Make sure he gets some running around time this morning and I bet he's ready for a nap at 12.30.

You were right about nap. Asleep by 12.35. He did more running than usual but it still took him longer than usual to fall asleep 20 min as opposed to 10. Is than normal and should I start wd earlier?

Look - don't start changing things or doubting what you are doing on a one off. It may have taken him 20 mins to fall asleep - tomorrow it may take him 5, the day after 10. He's not going to do exactly the same thing at the same time every day but the best thing for him at this age is to keep things as consistent as possible so stick with what you are doing for naps and bedtime at the moment and don't alter everything because he changes what he does on one day.

The time to make changes is if you have a particular pattern over a week or more. So, if for every day over the next week he takes 20/30 mins to fall asleep for his nap then we can re think.

You are both doing great!

Hi

Well it's been a week of set nap and BT and its worked wonders for getting rid of long nws and multiple short nws. We're still having odd nw here and there and EW some days so I think it's a routine tweak we need...

Our easy over last few days. I'm giving dream meds at 2.15 for molars. Naps are uncapped and during nws I can just ssh over monitor.

19/12/12

Wu 5.20
A 7h10
Nap 12.30-1.35 (15min to ss) woke cos of poo
A 5h40
BT 7.15 (15min ss)
Nw 4.30-4.40

20/12/12

Wu 5.50
A 6h40
Nap 12.40-2.10 (20min to ss)
A 5h20
BT 7.30 (30 min to ss) kept saying doesn't want to sleep
Nw 12.50, 4.15, 4.50 kept saying doesn't want to sleep.

21/12/12

Wu 6.30
A 6h20
Nap 12.50-1.45 (30 min to ss) kept saying doesn't want to sleep. Woke cos of poo
A 5h20
BT 7.05 (5 min ss)
Nw 4.55-5

22/12/11

Wu 5.55
A 6h20
Nap 12.17-1.45 (2min ss) stayed in bed resting till 1.55
A 5h25
BT 7.20 (5min to ss)
Nw 4.45, 5.20 seemed restless

EW today 5.45.

Couple of questions.

1. Does anything stand out over last few days that would indicate the ideal routine?
2. How can I keep his days to 13h and get rid of EW?
3. Should I try dream meds at 4 (don't think wearing off cos I give ibuprofen)

Ideal wu would be 7 and I can live with 6.30 :). He seemed fine on days he only had 1hr nap if that makes a diff.

Tia! xx

Ds is poorly today- nasty viral infection. So I guess all bets are off and i need to do whatever needed to get him to sleep and let him sleep as long as he wants till he's better?
