BBB at 17months old? too early?
« on: November 27, 2012, 14:53:29 pm »
Anyone had success transitioning to a BBB ealier than 2 years old. We had a friend get our DS a toddler bed and it is in his room now, and he can climb on and off on his own, we have allowed him to get used to it for a couple weeks now.
We were thinking of transitioning him to it in the next few weeks when he is about 17months old.
We just recently dummy weaned him at 16months, and he has started to STTN after 1 WIWO most BTs. He still mantra cries for about 3-5min at bedtime, but we think this is his new self-soothing as he no longer has the dummy.

Any BTDT advice?
Melissa

do you need to move him especially? If he is sleeping well I'd say don't mess with a good thing ;) But then I didn't move my DD til she was 2 1/2, and I plan on waiting as long as I can with dd2, so no BTDT.

We moved S to a BGB at 16 months, but it was just that her crib was recalled for the drop side so we decided to take that side off (it was supposed to convert anyways).  She is the type who never moves in her sleep and she still, at 4, will not get out of bed if someone doesn't come in and turn the light on.  M would never have done that, but she at least couldn't open doorknobs until she was 3 so went to a BGB at 2.5 or so.

Why do you want to move him? We moved Stan at about 22 months and I wished we had waited longer because he just didn't have the impulse control to stay in bed. I know others have done it without a problem though.

I moved L at 23mo and spent weeks putting him back in bed! I'm gonna leave it as long as possible this time with C.

I moved ds1 at 18 months and ds2 at 16 months without too many issues. Main problem for us was that they share a room and once they could both get out of bed then they could just mess around. They've finally got past that now!

Like pp, we transitioned DS around 22 months but then he was climbing out of his crib so we had to transition him.  I would leave him be unless he's climbing out.
