9 Month old wont settle at bedtime
« on: January 07, 2013, 14:02:20 pm »
I have a 9 month old who is on a 4 hour EASY.  She has two naps a day for 1.5 - 2 hours, she goes down for these no problem but for the last week she is difficult to settle at bedtime.  Each night she is creating a major fuss at bedtime but every night it is taking longer to settle her.  Last night it took 2.5  hours to get her to settle, she only wants myself to settle her also, please help me get my evenings back!!!

It is probably either Separation Anxiety or she needs a bump in A time and/or one of her naps capping. It could be a combination of all of the above. This is a prime age for it. Have a look at these links and see what you think 10 to 12 mth old Sleep Gone Wonky, and the 2 - 1 Nap Switch
Separation Anxiety

Hi Ali,

Thanks so much for posting a reply to me.  After reading all the links you supplied for me I think it could be that she is getting too much sleep during the day.  I am going to cap both naps to 1.5 hours instead of 2 hours, she will nap for 2 hours at each nap most days but I am going to cap it to 1.5 hours to extend activity time.  I have worked so hard at getting her onto E.A.S.Y from day one and she doesn't need rocked to sleep or anything so I would hate to undo all my hard work.  I will start on working towards turning her 2 naps into 1.  Just when you think you've got it sorted, it all changes again.

Thanks so much for your information, you are a life saver.  ;D ;D

I hope it all goes well. You may need to cap the naps gradually and/or one at a time to give her a chance to adjust.
