NW, bedtime and nap resistance!
« on: December 23, 2012, 07:05:05 am »
DS2 is really putting us through the mill at the moment, he's resisting naps and bedtime and we usually have a nw anytime between 3.30-4.30am thrown in for good measure! He's got all his teeth so it's definitely not that, he's just turned 2 so a bit early to drop the nap completely and even if he doesn't nap he will just fall asleep on the sofa around 4pm which completely messes up bedtime!
Routine looks a bit like this
Wake up - 6am ish
Nap - try for 12-12.30 but he's rarely asleep before 1.30, I wake him before 3.
Bedtime - 7pm he's usually asleep by 8.

I know he's OT but if he's refusing naps and bedtime I really don't know how to fix it. Any routine suggestions or is it a case of just ride it out until he drops the nap!

I would push nap back to 1 and try capping it at an hour x

Will give that a go! Will be so pleased when he drops the nap completely - his brother was never this difficult and he was spirited!

there is a regression at 2, we went through it and it was not pretty. We got lots of nap refusals and NWings which then got us in an OT mess.
I was wondering if you could just let him nap as long as he wants (up to 2 hours) for a catch up and do normal BT. If it is OT that should help and it does seem like he is quite low on sleep atm.

I think in a regression you just have to go with the screaming bed times, lots of deep breaths and knowing that it will pass! Ollys sleep needs dropped during it and we came out the other side with a later and shorter nap.

Good to know. We fly to Canada tomorrow - I'm hoping some jet lag will help reset his clock!
