Over active let down
« on: December 27, 2012, 21:34:31 pm »
Just wondering if anyone suffers the same as its causing my DD of 10 weeks to choke and splutter at the breast, I can hear the air going down as she gulps, which is causing her to be very windy after a feed, she also only naps for short periods waking needing to be burped.
Will frequent little feeds help rather than every 3 hrs with a big feed?
She is getting really upset with wind and its frustrating to see. I do use infacol and notice it can help but also makes her squirm more when pushing a poo so think it makes her a little constipated.
Any advice welcome!
Thanks !

I wouldn't try to feed more frequently at this stage if she's happy feeding every 3h.  Obviously if she seems hungry before 3h, go ahead and feed.

You could try reclining to feed so that your milk isn't flowing so quickly which she might find easier to cope with.  Or expressing the first letdown into a cloth/towel so that there's not such a strong flow would probably help.

Having had OALD issues myself, I can tell you that feeding more frequently just makes LO even more gassy more often - not worth it :)

Reclining or catching the first letdown helped, though the second letdown was the one that worried DS the most.
