HELP - can't get 11MO to sleep
« on: January 02, 2013, 11:59:59 am »
It's 3 hours since BT and my 11MO won't go to sleep. At present, DP is walking him round the house.

He is mid 2-1 and doing well enough. He may have been slightly OT at BT. But he woke after 25 mins, then again 15mins later, then again and then wouldn't settle. He's been mantra crying, screaming etc. etc. Tried bf-ing which usually works but he's rejecting the boob. He had nurofen 1hr ago in case it's his teeth. No other signs of illness. He just won't go to sleep at it's 10pm.

Not only do I now not know what to do but I am terrified of the implications for tomorrow and so on. Assuming he now sleeps, he will be massively OT - even if he sleeps through it'll be a 10 hour night for him and he is used to taking 12+ hours atm.

Please please please help What can I do now? What on earth will we do tomorrow to avoid Ot mayhem.

Hi Straffles,

Didn't want to read and run but just wanted to send you big hugs xxx I have a little one same age, who's also going through the 2-1 stage. About a month ago we had a night from hell, she probably  had about 5 hours sleep in the night and we had about 1! I was a zombie going to work the next day...and of course I asked myself how does my daughter get out of her OT.

I know that babies are different... but I learnt after that night that babies really are very resilient. She was full of beans the following day and we just went with the flow and read signs as best we could. She never did catch up on all the sleep she lost, but I realised that after a couple of days, that she didn't need to. I wondered if she would do it the following night but thankfully she didn't. But others are like this night after night... and they manage.

Lots of deep breaths, you will get through this, just like you have all along....xxx

Oh, and I still don't know why she was like that through the night.

Thanks for your reassurances ...

I guess it's just that we go by Atimes, it's the only thing we have, so
I have no idea what I will do tomorrow ...

Oh honey!! How did you go! PP had some great thoughts- the 2-1 is a killer- i've sooo been there! BUT they do make it! Try to keep your A times the same- but you may need to pop him down earlier for the first nap and hope for the best!
