What's a good A time?
« on: January 11, 2013, 18:30:52 pm »
What's a good awake time for a 18 week old (4months) we get usually 45-1 hr sleep then crying after 1.20 of waketime..she always goes down so easy that's why thought was good awake time. Babywise says 45 min nap are OT are they UT? Thanks!! Also do you think bad sleep this age connected with Wonder Week?

Hi Hon- Generally we find that a 45 min nap is undertired- but you also need to follow your baby's cues. If your baby akes up after 45 mins and is happy and ready to play then it's probably undertired, if they are grumpy or wake up crying then this may be a sign for OT for your baby. For the most part 45 mins tends to be undertired with 30 mins being a sign of OT.

At 4 months i generally say that you are looking for an average time of 2 hours A time, moving onto the 4 hour EASY. But that is an average. Some are doing less, some more. I would suggest that 1.20 is on the shorter side and that the naps are short because she isn't tired anough.

Is my baby ready to increase his ‘A’ time? (incl. 'A' times for younger babies)

45-1h20 min are UT naps. Average a times are 1h45-2 at this age Is my baby ready to increase his ‘A’ time? (incl. 'A' times for younger babies) I would increase first a time by 5-10 min for first nap and hold for 3-4 days to let lo adjust and keep gradually increasing a times every few days until ur getting 1.5h restorative nap. Then I would repeat process to get a restorative second nap too. Hth
