Will some babies just never re-settle
« on: March 07, 2013, 11:32:18 am »
Is it possible that some babies won't resettle after a short nap? It doesn't matter how long she has slept 30 min or 1hr 5mins when i go into her she will start smiling at me and babbling away, then roll about with her arm waving around wanting picked up. I have tried shh/pat but it just makes her more annoyed i think as she wants up. So is there anything else i can try or do some babies just not re-settle no matter how short the nap?

Today she napped for 1 hr 5 mins but once i brought her down strairs she was yawning her wee head off  ???

My guy managed to resettle about twice in 4 months of trying. The day i gave up resettling was the most liberating day ever! I stopped dreading that cry at the end of the 40 minute- or even worse, 30 minute nap and went in and opened the curtains! For us it was more about focusing on the A times and getting them right.

If they wake up grumpy and tired they may resettle- but only try for say 15-20 mins before getting him up. If he wakes up happy and wanting to play i wouldn't even bother with that! It is VERY unlikely that he will resettle!

Thanks thats so good to know.

I think i will stop trying them as she never wakes up grumpy. She will maybe start yawning and rubbing her eyes 10 min later and get cranky earlier but she is always bright as a button no matter how long the nap. It will be nice not to keep trying for something that never works  ;D

How long did you pull your A times back with a short nap of 35mins or 1hr 5, & 1hr 15mins, these are my 3 nap lengths (always)

To be honest we never really pulled the A times back after a short nap. We didn't really need to. My guy is textbook and so i think a little more resiliant to OT that some spirited or touchy bubs. I might have perhaps shaved 10 mins or so off the end. Or wouldn't have tried stretching it out that day. Other mums cut the A time right back.

Hi Eva's mummy mine could never resettle and I got in the habit of rocking him for the rest of hte nap because I was so in fear of an OT baby. Worst thin I ever did. I think fro months 3-6/7 I rocked him for all the naps he woke early from because he alwasy woke happy and wanting up. I wish I had just take the approach of ok he's up we'll work it out later. :) Would have been so much more liberating.
