Painful breasts after morning feed..anyone else had this?

Most mornings after the WU feed, my boobs sting. Its a really weird feeling - not like the let down, it lasts for AGES sometimes over an hour.  Its a bit like pins and needles mixed with stinging and stabbing, painful enough to make me gasp when the really bad stabs come.  NOT FUN. Doesn't happen with any of the other feeds.  Has anyone else had this and if so what if anything did you find helped with it.  Its driving me NUTS.  I dont seem to have any problem with supply, my DS takes both sides - has since he was brand new.  Any info on this would be much appreciated.  DS is 10months next week and we are still managing 4 bf a day (WU, morning tea, afternoon tea and BT).

Is thrush a possibility do you think? Strange it only happens after the morning feed though.

Does your LO spend a very long time on the breast at the morning feed compared to others, possibly dozing and sucking on empty breasts?

Anythings a possiblity...I wondered about thrush too, but like you say weird its only the a.m. feed.  He does spend longer on in the morning feed, but he doesnt doze, he full on feeds.  I wondered also if he's "over" draining them in the morning and they cant keep up?

How long has it been going on? Could he be having a growth spurt and the breasts need time to catch up?
Maybe ask your GP about thrush or any other medical reasons for it.

I don't know if it's the same thing, but I had something similar for a while. It happened after bouts of oversupply, after some feeds, when my breasts were "filling up" again, they would sting and hurt. It just passed on it's own after a while.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.  I wonder too if because its so hot I need to up my fluid intake further still, perhaps my body is trying too hard to make milk and I'm not supplying enough fluid...I'll try that for a few days and if no change I think I'll go to the doctor about it to rule out thrush.  Its not as bad today, only slight tingling with the odd more instense stab.  Yesterday was not as hot as it has been and today a bit cooler also....hmmm..
