Attempting easy from as soon as we got home. I've got a 20 month old as well putting up to bed for most naps and using shh pat successfully but can take bout 45 mins to get to sleep. I'm just struggling as to what to do for cat naps not practical to put him in car seat or buggy all the time and is snowing and freezing

How about a sling? Audrey used to be awful in the late afternoon/early evening but popping her in the sling she would at least be quiet and calm even if she wasn't actually sleeping, plus I had my hands free for making dinner for the older one etc.

If it takes me an hour to get him to sleep what's most important ear or sleep like today I fed at 8.15 trying to get to sleep from 9.30 down at 10.15 so would I need to wake at 11.15? Means he's only getting an hour sleep but trying to stick to routine. I left him till 11.30 to give him a little more sleep just not sure if I'm doing right

Personally I'd let him sleep a little longer. Don't worry about timings at all, just try to keep the EAS order of things, and try not to feed to sleep tooooo much. Honestly, at two weeks old I would try to go with the flow as much as possible, even if it does mean feeding to sleep. There's nothing you can do 'wrong' at this stage that you can't undo later.

Thank you I'd appreciate a bit more sleep myself and just seems wrong to wake him so soon after all the work of getting him to sleep. Are they expected to self sooth at this stage or later. Having to use shh pat almost every nap to get him to sheep and occasionally have to feed to sleep put in car etc. not sure how to recognise his mantra but sometimes he seems reAlly upset and we gobto him and he seems askeep

This is waaaay to soon to expect independent sleep and self-soothing. The mantra cry can be pretty full on, but do go to him if he sounds like he needs you, even a little cuddle can be all they need to be reassured.

Just popping on to offer some hugs and totally second everything Anna has told you :). Just try to relax and go with the flow for now and enjoy your newborn snuggles - there's plenty of time for establishing a more consistent routine and independent sleep further down the track.  Congratulations on your LO!

Completely normal. Let him cry for a minute and listen to his cry - it may be his mantra cry which is his way of trying to settle himself. He only needs you to help him if his cry is escalating to an 'I need you NOW mama!' cry.
