I have just started EASY with my 3.5 wk old but am struggling to get any routine to his feeds and naps. He generally feeds sometime between 6.30am and 8am and it is then hit or miss whether he will sleep again after this. Sometimes he sleeps for a very short while and wants another feed, at other times he will sleep for 2 hours, making the time between feeds longer than 3 hours. He also struggles to get off to sleep (although I have just started using Pat/shhh so am hoping that will help). I am breastfeeding and it takes an hour to feed him with him coming on and off the breast and often falling asleep during a feed.
The middle of the day tends to be better, but then from anywhere between 4pm and 6pm onwards he is very unsettled, struggling to sleep and wanting to feed very frequently - up to every 30 mins, although he often only feeds for a short time. I'm wondering if he is using feeding as a comforter? This continues up until approx 10.30pm when he eventually sleeps and the nighttime is a bit more consistent, he tends to feed every 3 hours, at 1am and 4am but because a feed takes an hour he only gets sleep in 2 hour blocks.
I wondered if I should be waking him if he sleeps past the 3 hour feed point or whether at this age I should just let him sleep? Also any tips for getting through the afternoon and evening? Thanks
