Have you tried no nap and early bedtime? I think that would be my first step at this point to see what happens. I found with dd2 that when we did no nap days, she needed to be in bed by 5.30 but she would then sleep through to 7 at least.

Hi clazzat

Thanks for replying. The last time i tried a nnd ds was ot and wus were 5.30. I didnt dare do a 4 pm bt so it was a 12h dayvand 5.30 bt with a night full of nws!!!

Now that hes not ot and wu is later should i try again? How long a day should i do if wu is 6 and he averages 11-11.5h total sleep. He wont settle after 10hr sleep and im worried about 3-4 am wu!!! Does that make sense?

It's worth trying again - sometimes at this stage something that didn't work 2 weeks ago is the right thing now because things have changed. I found with dd2 that it took a while to drop the nap because we did get ot nws, but we definitely got to the point where we were better without than with. When she was going through this phase we found that we were better doing some no-nap days but to let her sleep for a full nap on the days when she did sleep - I think that a half hour nap at this stage is worse than no nap at all.

I know he hates being woken! I carry him downstairs and he tries to sleep on my shoulder!

Ok will bite the bullet and try! So 1-2 nnds and then allow to nap as long as he wants does nap? Should i keep bt the same on those days as hes having now-7pm not ebt of 5.30?!

Thanks again!

In my experience the no nap days lead to a sufficient level of tiredness that you don't need to do a later bedtime on nap days - so at the moment dd2 doesn't nap during the week as she is at school and bt is 6pm, but at the weekend we give her at least one nap and bedtime is still 6pm. We have never found that she doesn't go to sleep on the nap days.

I would say 6 would be the latest and 5.30 if you can face it!

I didnt try nn yesterday prob a good thing cos he had several nws at 10.30, 1; 4.30, 5, 5.30. Think hes ot again but dont know how to break this cycle. Should i let him have a cu nap of 1.5hr and normal bt or is that gonna make things worse? Rubbish night :( :( :(

At this age I sometimes found that letting dd2 sleep as long as she wanted for a nap and then normal bt helped - but you do have to let them wake naturally, no matter how long they sleep. I wasn't sure if it would work at first, and I found it so difficult to just let her sleep past the time when I would normally wake her, but it really did catch up the ot and reset her.

He woke at 6.20 this morning and nap was at 1.30-2.30 (uncapped). I was aiming for normal bt of 6.45/7 and he still chattering at 7.20 ::)

So im guessing ut for bt?

Im getting really confused. I thought he was ready to drop the nap which is why ive been doing cn over kast few weeks but then he has ot nws so im thinking not ready to drop nap...now at bt its taken 40 min to fall asleep (7.30) so ut after just 1hr nap??!

Sorry for rambling but wdyt is he ready to drop the nap?? I just dont know what im doing...

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier - what did you decide? Fwiw, I think I would have tried to do the same as yesterday to see how it went. Hope you get a good night.
