consistent short naps for 4.5 month old
« on: January 21, 2013, 03:28:14 am »
hi there

babywhisperer has always been a lifesaver for me with dd1 and her numerous sleep issues. most of the time, they were resolved instantly!

i seem to have forgotten what to do with dd2 and could really use some advice on how to extend her naps (hoping that will also help with nightime sleep)

E: 7.30
A: TILL 9.30 (2 HRS)
S: (1.45) TILL 11.15

E:11.15
A: TILL 1.15 (2 HRS)
S: (1.45) TILL 3

E: 3
A: TILL 5
S: (30 MINS) TILL 5.30

BATH, ETC....

S: 7/7.30

I have tried to extend her naps with shush patting, especially the last one but to no avail. i really dont know how to extend her naps. she screams and screams until i feed her (lasts about 20 mins...feels like forever!)

her days are getting earlier and earlier and its difficult for me with dd1 waking later. i could really use sleep as she wakes a few times at night and needs constant burping.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks babywhisperers!!

Sorry, your naps look to be a good length? The first two are 1hr45, is that right? And then a catnap? That looks pretty good to me!

Or is that what you're aiming for, but not what's actually happening - can you post how today went? What time does she wake in the morning?

xx

thanks for the reply. from whwt I've read she's meant to do 2 2 hr nsps and 1 1 hour ehich she isn't doing.

is the last nap of 30 mins sufficient?

You want a restorative nap to be at least 2 sleep cycles, which is usually 1.5hrs. Anything over that is great.

The 30 min nap is a little short though - 45 mins (one sleep cycle) would be better as she's doing a long A to bed after such a short nap. 30 min naps are often OT - does she seem OT when she wakes?

no she doesnt seem overtired when shes up...which is why i couldnt figure it out. some days she may do 40, but mostly 30.
should i decrease her a time to bed? maybe keep it to an hour and try to fit everything in that time?

Is she settling well for bed? Sleeping ok at night? If so, you don't need to change anything! If she's a bit unsettled at bedtime or you're getting wakings in the first couple of hours of night sleep they could be signs that she's OT at bedtime. But otherwise, your routine looks great!
