6 WO is hysterical before naps, usually Angel baby
« on: February 04, 2013, 02:08:38 am »
Hello!  I am new at EASY.  My 6 WO started EASY 10 days ago (she will be 7 weeks tomorrow). Our family is enjoying the routine, but our LO starts crying when we start to swaddle her and put on white noise for her naps.  She cries (2 min to 20 min) escalating the length of the crying as the day progresses. In fact, we have cut out bath time at end of day because it seems to Overstimulate her and she is hysterical while we are putting on her jammies.  As a result of the escalating crying at 5:15 and 7:15 nap times, she ususally doesn't get these two cat naps at all.  After 20 minutes (sometimes 30 min) of hysterical crying we put her in the swing and she calms down immediately. She doesn't sleep, but she is not crying.
Here is a schedule from a few days ago (somewhat normal schedule, except NW is not predictable):
7:00 wake/feed
7:45 light play
8:20 swaddle/wind down
8:30 - sleep wakes 45 minutes later, gently calm her in crib, back to sleep until 10:25
10:30- wake/feed
11:15 swaddle wind down
11:30 asleep, wakes 45 minutes later, sometimes I can calm her back to sleep, sometimes I give up and she lays quiet for 15 minutes
1:40 feed
2:45 swaddle wind down
3:00 asleep, awake 4:20
4:30 feed
5:30 swaddle, wind down
5:30 - 6:00 tried to put her to sleep, no luck.
6:20 feed
7:15 swaddle wind down
7:15 - 7:45 tried to put to sleep, no  luck
8 pm feed in dark quiet
9 pm - asleep - took some time
3:00 am - woke up - fed in dark
3:40 am - asleep
5:15 am - awake, tried to calm back to sleep. Fed, took very little
7:20 - awake/ feed
Want to know if it is normal for babies to cry hysterically before falling to sleep with the Shhh pat method, and is she just OT by end of day - so too tired to cat nap in afternoon?  I have tried to cut her activity time down to one hour 10 minutes (sometimes less if she didn't nap well) but nothing seems to work.  Is it ok to get rid of the cat naps and just feed her and put her in the swing?
Also since we can't seem to get bath time in at the 4 pm or 6 pm A time slot, should we just move bath time to 10 am A time slot?
Help. I hate that my baby is perfectly happy until we swaddle her and try to make her sleep. The last two nap times of the day are wearing me out with the crying and I am afraid I am doing some sort of Accidental Parenting that will make her hate BT.
Advice please.

Hugs, 6 wks is often when the crying peaks and lots of OS get unsettled periods. Will she take a nap or two on you in the evening, in a wrap or buggy? Or totally go for the swing ;)
Do you think she could be in the 6 wk GS too
You could try a shorter A but honestly I think at this age it just gets too much for them (the day) and no matter what you do they get OS, OT and fussy. :-*

She's so little, your doing FAB! So hang in there.
