Extending every single nap
« on: February 06, 2013, 20:34:12 pm »
Hi. My dd is 12 weeks old and I've come to a point where I just don't stress about her having short naps. If I can resettle her, great, if it doesn't seem possible I just go on with our day. This usually yields 2long and 2 short naps in a random order. She has started to have a long first nap (1.30mins ish) two weeks ago as it was easy for me to keep to the 1.30a time. After that I try to stay consistent and cut down a time if she's had a short nap. But my question now is: she ALWAYS now stirs at 30mins and has to be resettled or else she'll wake up. Even her first nap of the day. It's like she has completely lost the ability to transition herself from one sleep cycle to the next on her own. Ever! So weird. Prior to these two weeks her naps were often 45mins long which is why I bumped up her a time from 1.15mins to 1.30mins. Any suggestions? She falls asleep independently at the beginning of a nap... Is there anything I can try?  Thanks

Wow, you must be like 100th person including myself who has a 12wk old baby who wakes up after only 30 min!!!! What is going on @ 12 wks? Or are all of our babies in conspiracy with one another? My DD has been on EASY since I delivered her and she knows how to fall asleep on her own and transition from one cycle to the next because prior to last week, she's been consistently sleeping 1.5-2 naps esp the first nap. Now, I just cant do anything.

Thanks for the link. Just like you, however, I have already tried those things. Sometimes things work. Sometimes they don't. I also feel doubtful sometimes of those 'rules' re: 30min =ot; 45min=ut. How can that be when sooooo many of us r tweaking the routine based on that and it doesn't necessarily work. I.e. if a 1.30min A time and a 1hr A time both yield a 30min first nap of the day for a 3month old, then each time they were OT? Really? Also sometimes I find it kinda funny that I work hard at 'maintaining an A time' for 4-7days, only to find maybe it didn't really work. And by then the kid is one week older so go figure? Maybe now their A time requirements have changed again?! So silly... Meh - I will just keep on keeping on for now... Hoping it's all a developmental thing. Lol. There's no winning I guess. I can't drive myself batty over this. I just always now plan for a 30-45min nap; some can be extended. Then anything extra is a bonus. Sigh.
