6 week baby naps
« on: February 10, 2013, 13:02:55 pm »
Hi Ladies.

Im trying to start the E.A.S.Y routine with my 6 week old daughter. I am really sruggling to get her to nap anywhere but on me. If I try the 4 S's, wait until she's drowsy and put her in her moses basket using shh pat she soon wakes. I was wondering if rather than trying to get the routine established and trying to bring in the shh pat Im trying to do too much? Which is more important? Do I just try and get her in to the rountine first using what ever method necessary ie. Rocking, nursing to sleep. Then once we have her napping nicely move on to getting her to settle in the moses basket using Shh pat.

The other day she didnt nap for 6 hours, I know in the end she was overtired and overstimmulated. I was trying to do the shh pat, now Im thinking I should have done some accidental parenting just to calm her down and get her settled.

Hope I have explained things properly xxx

Hi Hon! At 6 weeks she is still a little bit away from independant settling. Have a look at this thread for what to focus on in the first 12 weeks:

Getting started - how I survived the first 3 months

I would focus on the EASY routine and don't stress about the settling at this point. You could do something like try the shh-pat method for one nap in the day- i would suggest the first nap- but it;s up to you. She'll still need help until closer to 12 weeks to settle to sleep. Don't worry about doing some APing to make sure she doesn't get over tired.

i was like and was told to relax and to do AP for the first several weeks and enjoy my baby!  It worked!  I would bf baby to drowsy sleep and then put her (swaddled down for naps/bedtime).  I somehow always managed to get her to have her 5pmish catnap so that i could make her bt for 7pm.  The rest fell into place.

(to get her to nap longer I would fold a blanket  into a strip style and tuck over her lower torso/thighs and tuck into mattress of cot so that she would not jerk - obviously safely so not no way near her face!)

Thanks, I thought I might have been worrying about trying to do too much at once x
