E.A.S.Y gone off course
« on: April 09, 2013, 09:34:37 am »
i'm beginning to think i have a textbook/touchy baby hybrid on my hands. in general his temperament is fairly placid but he doesn't hesitate to express himself when something's not right and tends to wake up from night sleep and naps early and cranky.
he acts like he's hungry roughly every 1-1/2 to 2 hours, sucking on a dummy won't cut it; if it's not time for a feed only sucking my little finger will soothe him (normal at 6 weeks?) and is difficult to burp.
he also still hates to sleep in his moses basket.
i'd like to get back on track to help him feel more secure but i don't know where to start. i think the fact that i have a boisterous 3 year old, a dog that does what any dog does (scratch its ears then flap them noisily spontaneously, and a fairly bright house during the day doesn't help. i keep asking my partner to get his room sorted out, but it never gets done :-/

Are you breast feeding? BFing every 2hrs at 6wo can be completely normal so if you think he is genuinely hungry then please do go ahead and feed him.

sorry i should have said i'm bottle feeding (4oz, he usually takes 3oz at least but rarely the full bottle)
also to update; i did manage to get him to catnap in his moses basket yesterday afternoon for about 20-30 mins, so it's not like he's afraid of it. he's also fighting swaddling but sleeps better when swaddled - so confused  :-\

He is still very young so wanting to be close to you is natural. He has been in the nice cosy, warm womb for the last 9 months after all ;) if you are getting one nap a day in the Moses basket then that is good.

I would persevere with the swaddle even though it may seem he is fighting it. How long is he awake before you swaddle him for the next nap? I'm wondering if he is already OT by that point. What are you using to swaddle? My DS2 preferred a stretchy, ipped swaddle like the woombie to the tight miracle blanket for example.

I will ask for some bottle feeding eyes for you as I'm not sure what is normal in newborns with regards to bottles.

It would help us if you could post your typical/most recent EASY (I'm sure they are all different at this age) so we can see how his feeds and sleep fall.
