fore milk hind milk inbalance ?
« on: February 22, 2013, 23:50:37 pm »
DS is 7 weeks old
and is getting to be more and more unseteld
his poops are explosive and green most of the time
i have lots of milk and he never seems to get past the foremilk
i started blokfeeding yesterday
for 2 feedings a breast
his poops are better
they even are seedy now
but he is still pooping and hicuping lots
his poops are a tan color now
today he slept for 1 hour so far

he was on antibiotics last week
and then it was even worse
but that is a week ago

i wonder if im doing the right thing by blockfeeding
and dont want to end up with a low supply
he is struggeling less on the breast
but only goes 1.5 to 2 hours between feeds in the moring
and 4 or 5 at night
is that normal ?

I went through the same thing with my DD when she was roughly the same age.  I tried block feeding which solved the foremilk imbalance.  I haven't had any major issues with supply.

wrt feeding every 1.5 to 2 hr, how much does your DS weigh?  Was he born premature?  Has he always fed every 2 hrs or is this a recent thing?  There is a gs at 6 weeks (typically) and my dd also seemed to have one at 8 weeks so you might be feeding more due to a gs?

Hugs, we had endless bf issues with T. Forceful LD, imbalance etc. I think his reflux/intolerances also contributed to problems with feeding as he developed a bit of an aversion to feeding and only ate just enough YK?

I had some success with block feeding but I couldn't get the balance right. I had too much then too little, and things never came right.

I would defiantly try 4 hrly block feeding but may eh old off on any more for now. Try expressing a little onto a towel when your LD comes too.

Hugs - how is the reflux? Intolerances?

Yes, I'd just stick with 2 feedings in a row for the block feeding.
