I'm losing my mind!! Please help!
« on: February 20, 2013, 07:14:53 am »
Hi..

I have posted on here before regarding numerous issues but now they are all sorted I am looking to start sleep training again.  My ds is 22 weeks old and his naps are really bad!! Its like a constant fight trying to get him to sleep. I have to rock him pat him sing to him in order for him to nap but even then he wakes up after 30-40 minutes! I just look back and can't help but think of all the things that have caused this. .being held to long, rocked when he wouldnt sleep earlier and just me generally being an over anxious first time mum n thinking every cry meant there was sonething wrong with him. Another problem is his fussiness during the day and the constant need for me to hold him and wont play on his own!
Our EASY is like this so far. .

E 9.00
A 2hours - 15 mins of this is me trying to get him to sleep - and is just whinging all the way through his a time
S 30mins
A 1.5 same as above.

E 1300-1400 (in between these times)
A 1.5 again the same as first A time
S 30
A 1.5
S 30

E 1700
A 1.5
S 30
A 1.5
E  19.30

Bedtime. .

Down for 2000-2100
Will wake up at 2 then at 5.30. And drink milk have a little bit of a time then sleep til 9

Firstly I would really like to extend his naps and also start trying to get him to sleep on his own.

I am familiar with shh pat but feel pupd stimulates him too much.

I would also like some tips on how to get him to start playing independently..even if it is just for 5-10mins...

Please help as I am tired and just losing my mind as I have no time to relax as it feels like im constantly trying to put him to sleep.

hi hon= As far as the nap extension and helping with the settling independantly i think you need to look at getting your A times right. I think your A time is currently too short for your little guy. At 22 weeks he might need closer to 2 hours and 15/30 minutes A time to make him tired enough to go to sleep easily and to stay asleep. Can you try bumping the a time up slowly by about 10-15 minutes every 3 days?
