If sleep gets wonky at 18 mos, increase A time or keep same?
« on: April 01, 2013, 03:27:16 am »
I'm just wondering.  ???My 18.5 month old is going thru several things so its hard to determine whether to hold tight and wait this out or increase A times.

He's had a cold for five days with cough and congestion, waking up coughing. Super short naps, and an hour less at night. Better today though. 11.5 hr night and 1.5 hr nap. But he took 35 mins to settle for bt! Maybe ear infection now? He has pulled in his ear but zero fussiness.

So all this weird sleep......developmental? Cold? Sleep needs decreasing???

I've read not to change sleep times at this age and it usually passes but what age does their sleep see a drop? Just in case it's not all related to the cold.

There is often a sleep regression around 18 months too. If he is/has been ill I definitely wouldn't try and change anything right now, more likely he is OT from shorter naps and nights. Have you tried meds before nap/bed?

Yes we give ibuprofen and vapor rub and use a snot sucker. I only do meds at night though. Maybe I should do it for naps too.

I've been leaning in the direction that he's overtired but he's one of those kids that shows no tired signs while awake. He's hard to read.

We also moved to a new house but this started a few days before the move. Ill hold tight, give more meds, and take it easy with him here at home and see how he does. We've been out and about quite a bit so that may not be helping either.

While you were in the last mad dash of packing, perchance? Packing is a massive upheaval for a toddler - all familiar trappings of home disappear and this is when the 'move' stress starts for them.

I'm thinking it was a combination if moving and the cold. Last few days have been back to normal. Thank you ladies!
