not hungry at 7 after 4am feed
« on: February 24, 2013, 15:46:01 pm »
Hi there. My 12 week old is waking at around 4-430 in the morning for a feed (having slept from the dream feed). He goes straight back to sleep until I wake him at 7 (i have to wake him as I have two other children to take to nursery and school) and he is not at all hungry in the morning-he won't eat a thing! (he is on the 98th centile and is exclusively breastfed). This makes the morning really hard and the easy schedule can consequently go to pot. Can anyone offer any advice with this problem? Should I just not feed him at 4-he does seem genuinely hungry-? Many thanks Kirsten

Hugs, its hard when there is more than one.  How long does it take you you to do the school run?  I have to take my DS to school so depending on when dd wakes up, she might get fed after we get back from dropping DS off.  Yes, it's a slightly different routine but I'm not feeding her to sleep so she still gets some A time before her nap.

I would say that you definitely need to feed at 4 AM - is it possible to do a shortened feed (possibly one side instead of 2?) at that time?  Or like the PP said, you can always feed after you come back from dropping the others off at school.  At 12 weeks, you'll find that his needs are going to change pretty frequently anyway, so whatever you end up doing most likely won't last for too long.

What time is the DF? Just wondering if playing around with that could help move the NF time.

Thank you all so much your responses. I really appreciate it. I often feed him at 915 (as soon as I am back from school/nursery) but it makes the morning so frantic! He has slept through until 6 once now which made a huge difference and last night I had to feed him at 230am - he then lasted until 6. I am assuming as the waking is at different times, he is hungry and needs feeding. He is such a big chap and I am really struggling with the tiredness this time-maybe that has something to do with having 3 small children and breastfeeding! The dream feed is at 1030ish (always between 10 and 11). K x

Maybe bring it forward to 10 and see if that means he wakes earlier in the night for the NF and is then hungry for the morning BF?

It would be pretty unusual for him not to have a night feed at this age (even if you are doing a dream feed) -- if you can get it to the point where you're just doing a quick feed and heading right back to bed, that would be ideal.  I felt like a total zombie for awhile when my ds was that age (he's my third too) but it did pass.  :)

Thank you guys! I am going to try and feed at 10 and then see what the night holds. It helps to hear that others felt the same! Big thanks! K x
