"I want a pillow Mama!"
« on: March 12, 2013, 14:01:25 pm »
DS, 2y 6mo today, announced that he wanted a pillow at naptime  :o

He's still in a cot(bed) and sleeps in a sleepsac. He's currently got his lovey and 2 very small stuffed animals (instead of a pillow) in with him  :)

I have bought him a toddler pillow, but was wondering if it would be best to put it under the fitted sheet at first as I'm worried he's going to haul it around the bed and end up in who knows what awkward position!

Also, would it be better to introduce it for naps only in case it messes up his night time sleep?

Apologies for the silly questions, I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing, as you can tell  :-[

DD is just a few weeks older and gets on just fine with a pillow, I don't have it under the sheet and she doesn't usually keep her head on it the whole night but equally it doesn't disrupt her sleep at all. She's also in a sleep sack and a cotbed, and it's a toddler pillow :)
Blessed mum to two home-birthed darling water babies

hey you with the pretty face, welcome to the human race

Spencer has had an adult size pillow since she was 16 months, but she used to use it to arrange her stuffed animals on, just in the last few months she got too tall to sleep without her head on it (crib turned toddler bed). She never moved it or played with it, I'm not sure though she realized that she could!

Hi :)

My DS has a pillow too. He rarely keeps his head on it all night and ends up moving down beneath it often, but he starts off on it, looking all comfy and he doesn't throw it around either :)

I'd go for it!  With my boys I gave them both a pillow/duvet in their cotbed to get used to it before they transitioned to a BBB.  They were both about the 2.5 mark I think!  I found it makes them more likely to stay in one place in the bed as well!

Thanks ladies  :-*

I'd better order a couple of pillowcases and let him have the pillow then  ;D

Was hoping to take the cot side off at some stage this summer anyway and put him under a sheet / duvet, as he'll likely outgrow the sleepsac around then!

Charlotte has had a pillow since she was about 18mos old and loves it! The pillow has actually made her sleep in one place rather than being all over the cot! She's also gone from being a tummy sleeper to sleeping on her side! We just gave her the pillow and it was fine, no nonsense or anything!

So my ds is the only one who throws his pillow around then ???

He still sleeps on his knees, bum in air, with pillow (or sometimes a teddy) over his head. Scared me to death when i first realised what he was doing, but he likes to make a little nest & hide underneath!x

My DD2 has had a pillow since she was 12-13months (DD1 12months). I started with it tucked under the fitted sheet then moved it to above it, I check on her now and she lays across it LOL. I also don't think she knows she can move it and has never tried.

My 2 year old recently started to try and put his lovey or the crib bumper under his head, so I realized it was time for a pillow. He loves his pillow. He'll usually just sleep on it, but he moves around a bit when he sleeps so it sometimes ends up somewhere else (but he's also in a crib so it stays in bed). But it's not a problem. He also has a down comforter, the zipper on his sleep sack broke back in november/december sometime and he was just fine without it and with a comforter instead.
