Nearly 11 months taking ages to settle for naps and bedtime
« on: April 19, 2013, 13:26:51 pm »
Hiya! Any help would be much appreciated. We have had an up and down ride with sleep since LO has been 7 months. Things had got better till recently. She can take anywhere from 30 mins to 1hr 20 mins to settle to sleep. She used to settle herself to sleep in approx 20mins after a cuddle and sing song but more recently she will scream when I leave the room and will want me to sit next to her till she is asleep. She tosses and turns and keeps pulling up to stand and I can see her getting more and more OT.

Her generally looks like this

E 730ish up and BF
Breakfast 830
A Approx 3h 20
S 10.30ish till 12
E snack and then lunch around 1ish
BF 230
A Approx 3hr 20
S 3.15/30 till 430/5 depending on what time she fell asleep
E 530 Dinner
A 630 Bath and quietly play in cot
E BF 7pm
S Approx 730/8

I generally try and get her in her cot at the 3 hour mark so she can settle within 20-30 mins. Its been more difficult recently to read her tired signs as she seems to carry on playing despite rubbing her eyes and pulling her hair. I have tried extending A time by 10 to 15 mins and seem to get it wrong every time and we end up with a 30 min nap which totally throws a spanner in the works esp if its the morning nap. The morning nap by far used to better best one and she used to be out like a light within 5 mins but she has been fighting it more recently. OT? UT? Separation anxiety? Any tweaks you can suggest to my easy would be most appreciated.

We went through a rough patch a month ago with lots of motor development (rolling crawling standing all within 2 weeks!) as well as teeth (she only got her first one at 8 months and now we have 4) I dont think we are that far away from walking. Could it be that too?

Hi there,
Physical development and teething play havoc with sleep so that could def be the cause of some of the issues. I find also that teething brings out SA in both of mine so that won't help either.
As far as the routine goes I would imagine she is starting the 2:1 transition. She is sleeping a good night so she may be a wee bit UT tbh. I think it is probably time to think about capping one of the naps to about 45 mins. I always did a short am nap and a longer pm nap with my two but if her am nap is the better one you may prefer to keep that and cut the pm nap back.
What do you think?
