What do 1 hr naps for a 10 month old mean?
« on: February 17, 2013, 04:04:25 am »
I have a 10 month old (9 months adjusted) who has had lots of sleeping problems.  Nights have improved to 1 brief night waking and 1 night feed (weaning now).  Naps have improved from 30 or 45 minutes to 1 hour each (he takes two).  I'm aiming for two naps of 1.5 hrs each.  Any ideas what a one hour nap means (too much WT, too little, or something else)?  He always wakes crying from naps no matter how long they are so I can't judge with that.  He has improved to going down with very little or no crying for naps.  Thanks in advance!

Two naps of 1.5 hrs each is not realistic at this age hun.

10 month old (9 months adjusted)

Adjusted age generally evens out by 6 months of age in terms of A times etc.

In general, 1 hr is UT.  How long is he awake before you put him down?

I'll try increasing to get closer to 4 hrs of A time.  What is realistic for naps if 1.5 is too long?

I think she means 2 naps of 1.5hrs is unrealistic. Most are doing one long nap and one shorter cat nap to get through to BT. Many do the long nap in the am so in case it is cut short for some reason they have a second shot at a long nap in the afternoon, and some find their lo's do better with a shorter am nap.

Ha, I guess my ODS was doing the unrealistic - when he was on 2 naps, he napped 1.5 hra 1st nap and 1.5-2 hrs 2nd nap and then 12 hrs at night at 10 mos. I think it's possible but depends on the baby - ODS has always been a higher sleep needs baby. Could your LO be teething? I found that when DS was going through teething episodes, his naps would all of a sudden go to crap even though his day would be consistent - think "Groundhog's day" movie
