Help with ew?
« on: April 22, 2013, 07:50:18 am »
Charlie is 7 months old on the 1st, he has silent reflux which is mostly controlled with medication and he is a lot better at night, our days vary as I have meds to fit in but generally the principles are the same. He was on 2.5a time which was leading me to having to wake him after two hour naps. He has also started waking at around 5am, just moaning etc, so I go in generally have to roll him back over and I leave him and less than half n hour and he's asleep. So I was guessing I need to extend his a time. So yesterday went like this

E 7.30am
S 10.15-11.45 (had to wake as had to go out)
E 12
S 2.30-3.15 (woke crying wouldn't re settle??)
E 3.45
A
Tried cat nap around 5.30, he usually refuses but I thought he might need it but refused
E 6.30
Bed asleep by 7

He went straight to sleep, but still woke at 5am, I went in rolled him back as straightened him out and he did eventually go back off and I had to wake him at 7.30am

I thought as he hadnt had so much sleep and more a time we might have escaped the Emw last night? Is it developmental?

Today I am going to try 3hr a time, if he is sleeping 12 hours at night should I be capping the naps? I don't know realististcally how much sleep  should expect from his age in total. He starts nursery next week so our day will have to start at 7 every day.

Thanks in advance x

Hi there!
It sounds to me as he is in need of a bit more A time and is defiantly ready to drop the CN. To do that he would need to be on a higher A to fit your day and not to have such a long A time before BT which will make him OT. When you increase A times it's better to do it gradually, so 10-15min and stick with it for 3-4 days. If you need to increase again then you do the same but it's important to wait those 3-4 days to prevent OT and give him enough time to get used to the new A.
You can read about it more here: All about the 3-2 transition- 5/6 months
And here you can see how others have their A times at this age: chronological EASY samples, 7-9 months
Good luck!
