rountine with a 11mth old
« on: April 25, 2013, 08:37:56 am »
Hi. Just wanted to check my routine with my lo as lately have been having crying up to an hour before bed  after her bottle :-\

 She typically wakes at 6am
Then nap 9-10am then again at 1-3pm at which point I have leave for school run, I take her up to bath at 6 then bottle at 6.20 for sleep at 6.30. She eats and drinks well and goes down quickly and quietly for naps with no props. The only times she goes down at bed time well is if she is sleepy on the bottle and then I hold her for a minute afterwards till she is properly asleep. Should I be putting her to bed earlier do you think?

Hi my LO is 11 months too and has an A time of about 4 hours after a long nap. Maybe your LO is a little UT at BT after a long nap and then that turns to OT by time drops off? Maybe try a 13 hour day so BT 7?

Sure someone will pop on with other ideas too as I'm a novice ;-)

I agree with Haribo. My first thought was UT as she is having a lot of day sleep and short A times. Has she always been high sleep needs though?

Does she go to sleep independently in the cot for naps? What time is she sleeping eventually at BT? Does she sttn?

I'd either try a later BT at 7 or cap that first nap a touch more and have her sleeping 9-9.45 and 12.45-2.45 with BT still at 6.30/45. What do you think?

Hi Ali & Haribo. thanks very much for your replies. In answer to your questions she hasn't always been such a good sleeper. its only in the last two months that she has started sleeping more than 45mins at a time. She does normally sleep through the night though every 4-5 days she will wake up crying and typically won't go back to sleep for nearly 2hrs. She goes to sleep indepently for naps no prob just needs help if she can't go down at bedtime or at night. Her routine does vary abit for eg yesterday she slept just half an hr in the morning as in pram and then 12.30 - 2.30, aimed for sleep by 6.15 but didn't till 7 due to crying. I just assumed she was OT but maybe it is UT, so 4hrs awake is normal for her age? Will try later bedtime tonight.

That does sounds like lots of daytime sleep and a short middle A time for her age.  That MOTN thing sounds like UT to me. I would bump her A times a bit, maybe compress the AM nap to get the PM nap when you want it.

By way of example, my LO just turned 11 months and today, shock horror, has completely refused AM nap, done a really good (2.75 hour) nap after a 4.30 hours A time.  So looks like we're on one nap today as she only woke at 13.45 and there's no way I can get a CN in.  EEEK!  But I think mine is on the high end of A times. :)

Typical A times are 3.5-4.5hrs for an 11-12mo. Average A times and "Is my baby ready to increase A time?" if one nap is capped then the A time after that nap will typically be much shorter than the other two A times.
Here are some sample routines just for info too. chronological EASY samples, 10-12 months It also has info on the 2-1 nap switch that is happening at this age.
