Suddenly sleep problems
« on: May 31, 2013, 13:50:55 pm »
Hi all

My 18 month old DS has suddenly gone from sleeping 6.30-6.30 with one 3-3.5hr nap at 12.30 (which i normally have to wake him up from) to waking at 5.30 and has been slowly napping less each day until today when he only slept for 1h 20 mins at nap time. I'm completely stumped as to why. When he has a short nap I usually put him to bed early and he catches up the sleep and wakes at the normal time. Up until this week if something woke him early he would sleep longer at nap time and make up the difference. I've no idea what it is. Can any one help??!

Wow - your DS got a lot of sleep!

TBH it sounds like he's going through the infamous 18 month regression I'm afraid.  EBT as you are doing is def the way to ensure OT doesn't set in but I think lots of mums see a drop in sleep needs during the regression. Not great advice but I think most mums just ride it out as best they can and wait for things to settle down again.

There is a support thread up above if you're interested (you might have already spotted it).

When he wakes early from his nap and in the morning do you try to resettle at all or is that just not possible? What is his mood like generally when he's awake? Any signs of OT creeping in?
