Help! I need my time back!
« on: June 17, 2013, 19:23:24 pm »
DD is 17 months old and just finished getting all 4 of her molars which ruined nights and naps.  For 2 weeks, things went back to normal with sleeping through the night and 1.5-2 hour naps.  But for the past few weeks, her nap has gone to 30 minutes.  She has been taking only one nap since 12 months.  Reading other posts, I decided to start moving the nap later in the day by 15 minute increments.  This is not helping.  How do I get her to take 2 hour naps again???  I can't get anything done!

Hi there,
It could be the start of the 18 month regression or I think there is also a wonder week around 17 months.
Is she showing any signs of a development leap or has her behaviour changed in any way?
Also,
Could you post a typical routine when she was napping well and what it is now. How far on have you pushed the nap? How long did you try the later nap time for?

This was our working schedule:
7-715 am  Wake.
745 am  Breakfast.
1130 am  Lunch.
1230 pm  Asleep.
2-230 pm  Wake.
300 pm  Snack.
500 pm  Dinner.
700 pm  In Crib, usually fall asleep 730.

Last week, I thought she didn't look tired at usual time for nap, so we were in the crib a little before 1 and she wouldn't fall asleep until after 1.  Then she would be awake before 2.  She also wasn't falling asleep until 8pm.  What is the 18 mo regression?  Do I have to shift anything, or just get through it?

Hello,
The 18 month regression can be different for different LOs but often you get one or more of short naps, later naps, nap refusal, trouble settling (at BT or for naps), NWs, EWs...
I think the main cause is developmental. There can also be some SA at this time.
Some ppl find pushing nap slightly later can help (at least in terms of settling for it) and you might want to do this (as you have already tried). Others just 'muddle through' as best try can and wait for things to settle down again, although by then often a routine tweak (eg later nap) is needed anyway. If LO seems to be getting OT due to short nap then EBT can help keep that under control.
Hth. There is a support thread up above too for ppl going trough this.
