wont go down easily for naps
« on: July 02, 2013, 21:25:37 pm »
Hi my lo is 14 weeks old and ive been doing a 3 hour routine. In the morning she goes for her nap about one hour after waking up.  Sometimes this nap is for about 2 hours.  When she wakes i feed her and do nappy change and she plays a little then down for her nap. This time however she starts screaming and sometimes wont go down.  Usually if she does then its only for about 45 minutes.  Then she becomes cranky and often will not sleep for the rest of the day or if she does its only in small bits.  I still feed her every 3 hours and put her on her mat to play but shes cranky and often wont play for long.  How can i get her to accept that she needs to sleep? If she cries i pick her up for a few minutes and put her down again in her cot. I wanted to do a 7.30 bedtime but she hardly sleeps then. How can i help her sleep especially on the evenings? She sleeps normally from about 10 or 11pm to 3 or 4 for a feed sometimes until 5.  If she wakes before 3 i reswaddle her and she goes back to sleep. After her feed she then wakes up around every hour.  I wait a couple minutes before i go to her.  She is getting long for her moses basket but with the nightwakings i want to wait before putting her in her cot over night.

Sounds like you need an A increase for your second nap. My DD screams hysterically if I try to put her to sleep too early. Post your EAS schudule for review. How long is her A times? 1 hour is short for her age, but if it works for the morning nap, it may still need to be increased before later naps.

I try to lengthen the A times but she seems to get overtired quite quickly. This is around about what i do:

Wake at 7.10

E  7.30
A 8.00
S 8.30 - 8.45

E 10.30
A 11.00
S 12.00

E 1.30
A 2.00
S 3.00

E 5.00
A 5.30 including a bath and a massage
S 7.30

This is what i try to do anyway ive always fed her every 3 hours and as soon as she gets tired i put her down but as soon as i do she fights it and then i spend the while if her sleep time (and my Y time) trying to get her to sleep.

She is small at around 10Ib 10.
