7 week old short naps, great night sleeper
« on: July 03, 2013, 17:59:53 pm »
This is my third child. I have used EASY with all three. This baby has been on EASY since she was three weeks old. She had severe reflux at three days old and was vomiting an entire feeding one to two times a day. Ranitidine was started and adjusted and we now have a much happier baby. Baby never had weight problems and was back to birth weight at 9 days old. She is healthy and happy and EBF (Daddy gives her pumped breastmilk for three night feedings because I am a night shift nurse).

Our routine

0500 Wake to nurse (sometimes this is Daddy if it's one of my three nights on, usually 3oz)
right back to sleep
E: 0800 less than ten minutes, she is efficient nurser
A: consists of burping, changing, getting dressed... etc.
S: 1015 45 min.
E:1100
A/S went to lunch with family... she napped in car only (about fifteen min. each way) 30-45 minutes of sleep
E: 200p nursed and dozed off at the breast
A: set her in her crib with pacifier, she awoke twice and was easily comforted back to sleep within the first ten minutes of sleep
S: she woke at 245 and I started the game of shush pat and pacifier... until 430p
E:430p
A: bouncy chair while family eats dinner
E:700p (A Daddy feed if I am working, 2-3oz)
A: bath jammies swing
S:815p 45min Bedtime
E:900p (A Daddy feed if I am working, 2-3oz) This is sometimes very close to a dream feed depending on how tired she is from the day
A: Bedtime

when she shows signs of tiredness we rock or walk; she takes a pacifier and into her crib she goes. We will rub her belly and stay by her until she drifts off (or we are back in every few seconds the pacifier falls out, easier just to stay until she is settled). We do not swaddle, room is dark, white noise machine is on.
When she wakes we attempt to give her the pacifier, we rub her belly again, but to no avail she is UP! She is not cranky throughout the day...

My questions: She sleeps eight 8 hours straight at night, with a total of 11-12 night sleeping hours! Is she sleeping so well at night and therefore doesn't need as much sleep during the day? Should I be concerned with the short naps?

TIA!

My DS was also a great night sleeper and horrible day sleeper. We started really working on his naps at 4 months and after 1-2 months he was independently sleeping normal naps during the day (sleeping better before then, but not independently for a while). Short naps do tend to be developmental.
