My son is almost 7 months old and for the past month or so will only nap for 35mins to the minute! He has never been a great napper but used to do two naps of about 1.25 (35min wake for 5-10 then go back for another 45) plus a shorter CN but lately he just can't get back to sleep after 35mins. I've tried extending his AT but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
We do quiet time before bed and he goes down awake so I don't think it is a self settling issue. At night he sleeps 11-12 hours no worries only waking if he has wind or something but settles again within 5 mins once sorted.
I really want to move to 2 sleeps but can't because he wakes so early in the afternoon. He is BF with formula top ups and has 3 solid feeds a day.
Our schedule is:
7am wake, daddy play time, BF
8am solids
9.45 QT then to sleep within 5-10 mins around 10am
10.40 (ish) wake, try resettling for anywhere up to an hour with shh/pat but nothing works. If I don't go to him but just shh from the door or leave him completely he just screams louder and louder until I have to go in. When he wakes he is clearly still tired as he will often lay there crying with his eyes closed like he's frustrated he can't go back to sleep. If I pick him up he just cries louder as soon as he goes back to his cot.
11.15 bottle
12.15 solids
1pm quiet time then bed as he's usually exhausted after 2.5 hours AT due to short am nap. As per am nap.
3pm BF
4pm nap 3 as per other 2 but without attempts to resettle.
6pm small bottle of expressed breast milk from night before then solids
7pm bed routine with final bottle then bed around 7.30. He is put down awake and generally settles within 5-15mins then sleeps until 7am.
People keep telling me to be grateful he sleeps so well at night but it is just so exhausting and I can't get anything done so have to leave him to play when he wakes rather than spending time with him. He is also so tired all the time and is such a different boy on the very rare days he naps for more than 35mins.
Any tips/advice would be great.
