Hi ladies,

So I posted a few days ago about my 2 year old who is not sleeping.  He is a restless mess at bedtime.  This is a more pointed question - so when he wakes at night (all night) he's really not awake (we don't think) - he's just moaning and/or chanting.  Sometimes it's "mamamamama" other time it's just cyclical moaning.  He does NONE of this at nap - sleeps totally soundly and peacefully!

Unfortunately, my husband ends up sleeping next to him all night and that seems to be the only thing that quiets him.  I am 8.5 months pregnant and just cannot be awake, sleep training him all night.  We are so frustrated!!!!  Just don't know why he's doing this!

PLEASE HELP - IDEAS!?

Thank you!
Melinda

Hi Melinda,
So what does his routine look like?
There is a sleep regression around 2 years so could be that - I found it more with naps than night sleep but it can be the other way.
What is the situation with his teeth? Have you tried meds to see if they help?
Has he been an independent sleeper up to now?

It could also be something to do with the new baby that is about to arrive. I think many mums notice sleep disturbance before another lo arrives.

Hi Becky!
Thanks. His routine is pretty much -

Wake: 6-6:30
Nap: 12-2
BT: 7-7:30

We have tried meds for teeth - no difference.  I just wonder why he's moaning so much - no crying, etc.  I'm so worn down its ridiculous!

Thanks,
Melinda

Sounds like it might be a mantra cry.

Agree it might be developmental or new baby; both my kids' sleep went to pieces on the cusp of new skills and then eventually settled again, usually within a week or so.

It does sound developmental although DS moaned rather than cried when he was cutting teeth but if meds make no difference unlikely that.....poor you. Must be v tiring. When things are bad here we have to do 1 on watch 1 of us sleeping  so maybe DH could do the night and you could have ear plugs so you get some rest?

Thanks, ladies.  We move in to a new place tomorrow, so likely this will all get worse before it gets better :(
