Is my hand a prop?
« on: September 02, 2013, 10:51:05 am »
Hello, my DD is 13 mnths old and she can only fell a sleep holding my hand, nights and naps. I would like to teach her to fall asleep without my hand, but don't know how to start. She has a toy to sleep with, but i can't give her a toy instead of my hand, because she tarts crying. Did someone try to put  LO without a hand, after falling a sleep with hand for a year? Please help, i think that she will need my hand forever...

Hi there! Just going to pop you over to Toddler Sleep as your LO is more than 1 year old.

Hi!

Yes I'd say that you /your presence is a prop. Have you tried anything so far? Has your LO ever slept independently?

The problem arrived when i wean the paci and she needed something, so my hand. But then when she got her teeth i gave herpaci back, because it was realy bad, now she has paci and my hand:(( i tried ti give her a smal blanket/toy but in 4 months she still needs my hand and does not want a toy... Don't knowwhere to start... She wu at around 4or5 am and i can not settle her, i give her my hand and she just cant fall asleep back..but it can be that she is cold, but she does not want to slep in sack and she is moving so much in her sleep that i can't cover her with a blanket. I took her twice now in my bad and she slept back quite fast.

I would say that GW is the way forward here to get rid of the prop ie you! Have a look at the link below. I'm going to try and get some more eyes for you as I've never had to do GW myself

I think you have to prepare yourself for some crying! There is no real 'no-cry' solution for toddlers, they don't like when you change things up. So for the first few days/ week you stay by her crib but don't give her your hand. Yes she will cry, but you are there to reassure her. After a few more days you move yourself a couple of feet away from the side of her crib and sit there. Etc until you are by the door.
