Hugs, I went cold turkey on not using ANY props with DD2 (who was also around 4 months at the time). I didn't see the point in having to sleep train if I was still using props as it would have been unfair to then do more sleep training later on to wean more props. So I threw all the dummies out, I stopped the rocking and the BF to sleep and I used shh/pat as a method for all naps and night wakings. Yes, the naps were short and although that was extremely frustrating at the time, I still didn't extend using props because she needed to learn how to put herself back to sleep so I would try with shh/pat and if that didn't work, I would accept it and move on with our day. In time, she learned and started extending naps on her own. It was a rough couple of weeks with lots of crying but well worth it
.
I would say if/when you're ready, have a look in the PROPS section of this forum and maybe even post there for some support from others who have been through it and can give you some ideas. Here is a link to gradual removal plan (also from the props section)
